The first ever TABLE Tantrix tournament to be held in the southern hemisphere took place on the weekend of 17-18 April 2004 in Nelson, New Zealand and was won by triple World Champion Matt Peek from Auckland, with Tantrix inventor Mike McManaway from Nelson in 2nd and last year's World Championship runner-up Shaun Cooper from Auckland in 3rd place.

The NZ Open will be run by Tantrix inventor Mike McManaway and Britta Steude and the following details are known at this stage:
Entry Fee: NZ$35 if paid by 31 Dec 2003, otherwise NZ$45
Guaranteed Prize Money: NZ$400 plus any sponsors' prizes.
Deadline for entries: March 17th.
Format: Games to be played from 8am to 6pm both days.
Sat: round robin for all players then Sun: KO format, or similar depending on the number of entrants
