| It is
reasonable to suggest that this method for ordering the teams is not entirely
fair to NZL, whose players in many ways dominated this year's WTC and which
had the highest win% |
| of any country
with more than one player in the main draw. Their -5 'shocks' score simply
reflects the fact that they have around half a dozen really strong players
(including 5 of the |
| top 8 seeds)
whose were unlikely ever to be in a position to score shock wins, always
being the 'favourite' in their matches, but hardly any up-and-coming stars
capable of beating |
| a strong
player. This has been remarked upon before as a reason why the group phase of
the NZ Championship is always so predictable. Anyway, they may like to look
at the positions |
| based on %wins
instead. For other countries, the positions go quite close to reflecting the
subjective impression of which countries had a better or worse than expected
WTC. |
