Congratulations to no. 3 seeds HUN A who are the new World Team Champions, having beaten no. 5 seeds NZL B by just 11.4 TPs (13 games to 11) in a 25-game Final whose result was in doubt until the penultimate game. HUN A had previously beaten defending champions and no. 1 seeds NZL A by just 1.2 TPs (0.5%!) in their SF. Indeed, both SFs, the Final and the 3PPO were all decided by a margin of less than 5%. You can see a picture of the victorious Hungarian team here. In a rematch of last year's Final, NZL A narrowly beat GER A to finish 3rd. GER A deserve great credit for electing to finish the match in actual play after the deadline rather than claiming defaults to which they would have been entitled.
24 x 5-player teams started out this year, completing 75 games each in four groups of six teams. All of the qualifiers for the QFs came from among the top 12 seeds with the biggest shock being GBR C finishing above no. 4 seeds FRA A in Group C. In the knockout phase from the QFs onwards, Player N in one team plays five games against player N in the opposing team. As you can see from the flags above, the teams came from ten countries, one French Département d'Outre Mer (Guadeloupe A) and two regional groupings of three countries each.
