| Notes on how
late defaults were applied: In the pre-groups email,
it was made clear that since these groups were |
| not going to
be AC-controlled in the normal way, very late defaults were more likely, and
that we therefore reserved the |
| right to
"vary the normal rules about wiping all results when a player defaults
(more than one match)" in the interests |
|
| of fairness
and of making as many results count as possible. The default decisions were
passed to Rick Yagodich, who |
| has not been
following these groups so was unaware of what effect his decisions would have
on the final outcome. (*) |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Thus, Rick
made a completely independent decision as to how defaults should be applied
taking into account only |
|
| whether one
player had made more of an effort than the others and how many games each
player has left unplayed. |
|
| In the end,
the only 'total' default (i.e. all results ignored) handed out to someone who
had played at least one game was |
| to horchilde
who only completed one match. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|

| (*) the
reasons the rules have to be more rigid in the major tournaments are that a)
more is at stake, so we prefer to limit |

controller discretion to be used as far as possible and b) in a major

controller who has not been following any of the results! |
