Champion Aata (HUN) Attila Bőhl |
The European Tantrix Championship ("the Euro"), played online, was open to all Tantrix players living in or coming from Europe.
The eventual winner turned out to be Attila Bőhl (Aata) from Hungary, this being the first time he makes it to the Hall of Fame. He is the 4th Hungarian player to have won the Euro, allowing the Huns to collect 4 titles in the last 5 years.
The runner-up was 2001's champion Ben Polman ITM (benopi) from the Netherlands, scoring his 2nd silver medal after 2003.
As it happens, Attila knocked out no less than 3 Dutch players on his way to the title, but had Ben won the Final, he would have knocked out no less than 3 Hungarian players in a row!
The bronze match saw 2005's winner and previously double 4th placed Zoltán Németh ITM TTM (Zormac) narrowly beating former PanAm champion James Preen (bluedog) playing for the UK.
Thanks for the fun everyone, be back next year!
Note: in a slight change to last year's format, the top three players qualified from each group for a L48 knockout, with the group winners getting a bye into the L32. The format will probably be discussed next year again.
