Champion tommg (HUN) Tamás Gombkötő TGM* |
The European Tantrix Championship ("the Euro"), played online, was open to all Tantrix players living in or coming from Europe, subject to the usual nationality rules that appear in the Notes for Entrants below.
The winner is Tamás Gombkötő TGM (TommG) from Hungary, thus becoming the first player ever to have won three European Championships. His performance was very convincing throughout the entire tournament. The runner-up was Neil Jenner TGM (Typo) from the UK, having now collected two silvers in addition to his past Euro title. The Final was a repetition of 2004, except it being a TGM show-down this time instead of a clash between the two rising stars they were back then. The bronze medal goes to Attila Mikulán ITM (blick) from Hungary, who in the 3PPO beat surprise package Else Kubon Halvorsen (Elku) of Norway.
The Plate, open for players who went out from the Euro group phase, was won by Trini Calzado (chikfresh) from Spain, who in the Final beat Netherland's Onno van Elsacker (superman) in a Final that went to a tiebreak - it could have been Onno's second Euro Plate victory but he was edged out by Trini in the end. Bronze medal goes to Lutz Göhmann (Othello) from Germany, who beat Hungarian Illés Matócsi (ILLES) in another tiebreak match.
Thanks for taking part everyone, see you next year!
