The WTTC can be one of the hardest tournaments to predict ratings for, because a player can do really well while their team doesn't match them and vice versa. t gets particularly complex when the KO phase has so many close results, the only teams to get big QF victories suffer big losses in the final round and when some teams had one or two stand-out players while others had different players taking up the baton in different rounds, though of course it's this kind of confusion that the Elo method tends to unravel far better than any subjective method could!

So, it is interesting to note that the top three WTTC-only ratings (and TGM norms) belong to the three team no. 1s with the best past records for gaining TGM norms, even though all of their teams except Neil's didn't get as far as expected.

Yoseph and Pepe's relatively weak WTTC performances (for players of their standard) mean that Neil joins the other two who gained TGM norms in the top three of the overall online ratings, and with Rob moving up too, to 4th, the new WTTC Champions GBR A have two of the top four in the overall online list - see http://tournaments.tantrix.co.uk/ratings/rating.shtml for all the up to date rating and norm info.

The other two norms from the WTTC (both ITM norms) go to:

a) Gulu, the no. 3 player on the 3rd placed HUN C team, who got the 2nd best score among the no. 3s in Group D (where the no. 3 slot was very strong - shunter, the only no. 3 to score higher in that group, only just missed an ITM norm himself) and won all four of his KO phase matches.

b) Galca of ISR A, 2nd of the no. 2's in Group D (just 3.5 TPs covered the top three), where the average rating was also relatively high, she was 1-0 in the KO phase before a team loss stopped her going any further, whereas the top no. 2 in that group went 1-3 in the KO phase and the 3rd no. 2 went 2-2 - though that's a bit of an over-simplification, since it is the exact interaction of TP%s and opponent ratings that actually produces the final figures.
