Hello everyone!
The 2010 British open is likely to be held in Manchester on either 3-4 or 10-11 July, potentially serving as a warm-up to the next world open.
It would be helpful to know if you have a preference for either of these dates or if neither are suitable.
Cheers,
Tizz and Flop |

Thanks!
I definitely can't make 3-4 July as I'll be graduating.
I don't know yet whether or not I can make 10-11 July, but this is what I voted for.

I'll definitely try to be there, it will mostly depend on available flights
and the dates should not interfere with the HO |

A few more details...
DATES:
The 2010 British Open will be held on the 10th and 11th July- by which point I probably won't have to read a chemistry book ever again!!!!!!
VENUE AND ACCOMODATION:
The tournament venue will be Abbey College which is right in the centre of Manchester with most of the main attractions within a short walking distance:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=abbey+college,+manchester&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=11.957247,39.506836&ie=UTF8&hq=abbey+college,&hnear=Manchester,+UK&ll=53.484062,-2.244086&spn=0.011747,0.038581&z=15&iwloc=A
The group accomodation will be in the uni halls on Sackville Street (similar to the ones in London), five minutes walk from Piccadilly Station and about 15-20 minutes walk from the venue...
http://media.stars.manchester.ac.uk/files/conference/meeting/sackvillestmap.pdf
We'll confirm the exact cost nearer the time but it will be around £25-30 a night for a standard single room, £35-40 for en suite and £40 for a double (standard rooms only) for bed and breakfast.
(If you are trying to match up the two maps, the one for the accomodation is just off the South-East corner of the one for the venue.)
There are various other budget options a bit further out or if you want to hostel it, notably the Hatters:
http://www.hostelbookers.com/property/index.cfm?fuseaction=accommodation.search&isdynamic=1&strsearchby=destination&straccommodationtype=hostels&intdestinationid=1007&strdestination=manchester&strdestinationparent=&intnights=2&intpeople=1&dtearrival=09%2f07%2f2010&fromPropertyNameSearch=0&intpropertyid=3636
The entry fee will depend on exact numbers and prize money etc. but we are aiming to keep it as low as possible- probably £10-15.
GETTING THERE:
Manchester Piccadilly station is about 15 minutes on the train from the airport and there are several trains per hour. It's currently £3.20 each way off-peak.
In terms of budget airlines, Easyjet, Jet2, Flybe and Bmibaby all fly to Manchester from a number of locations throughout Europe.
Think that is everything for now,
Cheers,

| I would like to attend, but before committing and booking train tickets I would like to have confirmation of maximum costs (accommodation and entry fee), and whether the event is definitely taking place - at time of writing there are only two official entrants. |

Sorry for the slow response guys... I should really have been checking this more often.
The entry fee will depend on the number of entrants (which is worrying me too!). It will not be more than £15 (to cover the cost of the venue and prize money) and may be considerably less if we get a decent number of entrants so invite all your friends!
Accomodation wise- maximum prices (this is expected- don't take it as gospel!) - standard single £32, ensuite £41, double (standard rooms only) £41 (total) on a bed and breakfast basis.
I hope the tournament can go ahead- if you're unsure about entering but think there's a good chance you will- please register- you can always cancel later. Once (if) we get a few more entrants I'll send out more information and you can specify accomodation preferences etc.
Hope that helps,
Chris |

I've registered, but still haven't had confirmation that I can take the holiday. Hopefully I should know very soon, as I submitted the form ages ago. _________________ **** Tantrix is not a game.... it's a disease **** |

Hi again everyone.
Just to inform you if you were still thinking about entering...
THE BRITISH OPEN IS CANCELLED due to lack of interest.
Really sorry to anyone who was planning to come- I'm extremely disappointed as well!
Sorry for the such short notice as well, I know we have been struggling for entrants for months but it's only become apparent in the last few days that the tournament wouldn't be feasable.
Anyway, I hope to see you all soon!
