oskar (Oskar Green, SWE) - egmaria (Mária Erdey-Grúz, HUN)
As an early start to R2, they played three very close games with Mária coming on top by just 2-1, or in TP terms 34.1-25.9 - so there is all to play for!
This was Zormac's post, apologies to him for a few teething problems in moving posts from one round to another which resulted in the poll getting reset.

Okay, I like to vote for the underdog. And just maybe it has something to do with me wanting to meet the lower ranked player in r3 if I defeat Marek. |

I've just noticed that Oskar is the only player who finished 2nd in a Prelim Group and had less than 1740 seeding points (*) who has not yet been knocked out of the competition.
The Prelim Group winners are doing somewhat better.
(*) The four Prelim Group runners up with more than 1740 seeding points were all moved up to a higher seeding group after dropouts. Out of those four, jmn34 has qualified for R3 and tryme is still just about hanging onto Jed00's tail in R2.
In addition of course, lorene who qualified as a 'lucky loser' after finishing 3rd in her Prelim Group has reached R3! |

The battle which started about two weeks ago is over now. The games were so balanced, Maria won 1st, 3rd and 5th, Oskar won the remaining 2nd, 4th and 6th, and there wasn't higher margin than 7 in that games. But there was an interesting thing to highlight: before the last game, Maria had 54.9 TPs, so a draw would have helped her to avoid the 7th (tiebreak) game, or a 1 tile loss with a time penalty on the other side was also enough for her. And she got a big shock... The game was so close, oskar won by a single tile, and his clock stopped at 14:59
1 more second and Maria is the winner (with 62.6TP...) And due to server latency she saw 15:01 in Oskar's clock, but it jumped back to 14:59 after the server sent the correct time to her computer. It was a real drama...
She was sure about her win for a little moment, but then a lightning from the sky stroke down. Timebreak game was needed
And this "1 second" episode helped Oskar and Maria couldn't forget this fact in the last game. So Oskar won easily by 26-11, and got a ticket into R3. Congrats for him and good luck against Neil. But I think that Maria also would deserved that place, by those 6 so close games (and she was in lead after G6). I hope her fighting spirit will come back for the Plate, and she'll do well there.
Sorry for ignoring the game analysis, but in this battle the emotions got stronger role than the best (or missed) moves...
