The first ever New Zealand Tantrix Champion will win a return flight from anywhere in New Zealand served by Origin Pacific Airways to Nelson, the home of Tantrix. Looking at the timetable, this means Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Tauranga or Wellington are possible departure points. The flight can be taken at any time up to the end of the year 2000. There are no alternative prizes.
It would be well worth taking advantage of the prize if you win, since Nelson sounds like a wonderful place to take a break. If Mike and Britta are in the country at the time, they will do their best to make you very welcome too - you can stay with them if you want to and even enjoy an optional tandem paragliding flight!
What has Nelson got to offer? Well, it's a tourist orientated 'café culture' city of 50,000. It's also famous for its artists and has the highest sunshine hours anywhere in NZ annually.
In addition, within an hour by car are:
- some of NZ's best beaches
- the famous Abel Tasman National Park (beaches, kayaks, trekking, etc)
- two mountainous National Parks
- the deepest 'hole' in the Southern Hemisphere (you won't be thrown in!)
- the largest system of caves in the Southern Hemisphere
- one of the best places to learn paragliding
- Mike's probably a great teacher of paragliding too :-)
- the best cross country paragliding in NZ (yes, he's obsessive too!)
- the best craft market in the country
- the 'centre of NZ' a monument built on the exact geographical centre
... and of course it's the home of the world-famous Tantrix game!
