Why do we have Tournament Controllers?
The Tournament Controllers are there to help you, especially if you are new to the WTC. They are also responsible for settling disputes, ensuring fair play and ensuring that matches are completed on time. They give their time on a voluntary basis, so please help them as much as possible.
How do I get help?
A Controller will have been assigned to your part of the draw. You will have been told in an email who your Controller is. If you have forgotten, you can find them in the Controller column against your name on this page. This is the person you should contact if you have problems arranging games (eg. if you do not understand time zones or your opponent has not replied to your emails) or any other questions. Please also tell them the dates and times of any matches you arrange - this will stop them from hassling you!
In addition, when any of the Controllers (whose nicknames can be found in the list below) or indeed any of the experienced tournament players are in the lobby, they will be happy to help out if you have problems or to sort out minor disputes on the spot. However, please be very patient if they are playing a game themselves - it might even be a tournament game.
Important:
Defaulting after failing to reply to emails from opponents or Controllers or trying to find pathetic ways to cheat which you think are technically within the rules is the best way to get banned from future tournaments. Keeping your Controller informed about what is going on is the best way to help them and keep them happy.
Right of Appeal:
You should respect decisions made by controllers but you do have the right of appeal. It will be assumed that an Assistant Controller is telling the truth about the facts of any matter unless you can provide strong evidence to the contrary. However, if you disagree with their interpretation of the rules in any given situation, you can appeal to Steven by email. Steven may consult with Jamie if the decision is at all complicated, and will definitely consult with Jamie in any cases where he might appear to have a conflict of interest.
List of Controllers:
A list of controllers, their email addresses and the sections of the draw they are primarily responsible for can be found below. Controllers have been assigned to sections of the draw in the opposite half to their own. Later in the tournament, responsibilities will be redistributed to take into account which of the controllers are still left in the draw.
