Pan-American Tantrix Championship 1999

Initial entries for the Pan-American Tantrix Championship can be found below. The top four Pan-American players in the Lobby rankings have all entered, which is great to see. I'm not sure what happened to the Canadians though! If there is an odd number of entrants, or if someone is unable to connect on 13 June, Jason will play for the honour of the Canadians ... even though he's Australian :-) He won't be able to be Pan-American champion though.

There is a dearth of Elo-rated players in the Americas, so having an extra rated player like Jason in the tournament would help your initial ratings to be more accurate.

This doesn't mean your Elo rating for the tournament will be based solely on your game against Dave - it will depend on your results against everyone. However, the average rating for the event will depend on Dave's pre-tournament rating and how well he does in this tournament, since that is the only Elo information we have to start with. His rating will stay at 1526, so if he comes first, everyone else will end up rated below 1526, if he comes last, everyone else will be rated above 1526.

Since this is the first year of online tournaments, ratings will be recalculated before and after the World Championships, iterating using every tournament result this year, so any distortions should get corrected later in the year when some of you have played more tournament games against people from other continents.
