Pan-American Online Tantrix Championship
Ben Trumbore (USA) retains his title

This tournament covered the players in North, Central and South America and there were 11 entrants from two countries. The defending champion Ben Trumbore (USA) retained his title, with Jamie Sneddon (USA) in 2nd and Dave Dyer (USA) in 3rd. The only Mexican, José Luis Cortina, also played very well to come 4th. Top of the tournament newbies was Steve Wiley in 5th and there was a very close fight for the remaining places. For the full results, please click on the first link below.

Notes for Entrants (retained here for reference)

All the notes are on this page - if you only want a specific section, click on one of these links:

Who can enter?    Tournament format    Tournament timing
Rules    Free entry    Elo ratings

Who can enter:

This tournament is open to everyone living in North, Central and South America. New and improving players are just as welcome to enter as the stronger players and you do not need an Elo rating in order to enter.

Tournament format:

The tournament will be played in an all-play-all format with each player playing a single game against every other player. You can expect to play about ten games in the tournament.

If the number of entrants is high, we reserve the right to split entrants into seeded groups, with a final to follow. If the number of entrants is very low, the format may be two games against each player.

Tournament timing:

All games should be played between Thursday 16 March and Sunday 30 April where possible. Players should arrange times to play between themselves, as in the 1999 World Championship. It should be easier to arrange games with your opponents in this case because you will all be in similar time zones and you only need to arrange single games, not whole matches.

Anyone who has not played at least 30 % of their games by the end of March risks being defaulted, with all of their results wiped from the tournament, unless it is clear that they have already arranged most of their remaining games or are making a big effort to do so. Having said that, if you are away for a week or two during the tournament, we can usually cope with this as long as you inform the tournament controller in advance.

Rules:

The standard tournament rules will apply, with 15 minutes 59 seconds allowed per player per game and scoring using the Tournament Point system. Click here to see the full rules.

Entry fee / Prizes:

There is no entry fee and therefore no prizes, but if you win, you will be able to call yourself "2000 Pan-American Tantrix Champion" and hopefully will have a lot of fun playing in a really competitive tournament.

The 1999 World Championship had sponsored prizes and once we have a longer track record, we hope we might be able to get sponsorship for other tournaments too. For now, though, you are playing for 'honour' and Elo rating points!

Elo ratings:

All games played will count towards the Tantrix Tournament Elo Ratings which are used to decide seedings for future tournaments, including the World Championship, and to decide the Tournament World No. 1 player. Official ratings will be updated soon after the end of April, when both the European and Pan-American Championships have finished. See Tantrix Elo ratings for further information.
