The European Tantrix Championship is open to everyone who lives in Europe (including Israel, as is usual in most European sporting championships) or who comes from Europe. There is no entry fee and while there are deadlines for matches to be completed, you arrange a mutually convenient date and time for each match with your opponent. We hope all Tantrix players from Europe, from the strongest to the newest, will enter!
Even if you are new to Tantrix, this is a good chance to start getting in some tournament practice in time for the World Championship later in the year - you might even surprise yourself in this tournament.
Please note that if you come from Europe but no longer live there, you should enter only if you are willing to play the majority of your games at times convenient to those in Europe (i.e. mainly their evenings and weekends) and if you do enter this tournament, you should not also enter the continental/national championship for the country where you now live.
Tournament format:
Entrants will be split into eight all-play-all qualifying groups of 6, 7 or 8 players each (playing two games against each other player) so that everyone gets to play a few other players. The top two players in each group will qualify for the knockout phase. Knockout matches will consist of six games against the other player and to allow for margins of victory, the games will be scored using the Tournament Point system.
In March, there will be links on this page to fixture lists and results, which will be updated every day or two.
Rules:
The standard tournament rules apply. There are only a few minor changes this year and the time limit is still 15 minutes per player per game.
Click here if you want to see the full rules or click here for just a summary of the main rules. The rules are also available in other languages as follows:
French le rčglement,
German die Regeln and
Hungarian, a bajnokságok általános szabályai.
.
Free Entry:
There is no entry fee and the winner will be able to call themselves the 2002 European Tantrix Champion.
Elo ratings / Seeding method:
All games played will count towards the Tantrix Tournament Elo Ratings which are to be used to decide seedings for future tournaments. See Tantrix tournament Elo ratings for further information. The seeding method is based on these ratings - see the Seeding method & list for full details.
Final note:
The controller will be Steven Trezise, email tournaments@tantrix.co.uk In the case of disputes, the decision of the controller will be final. Assistant controllers, who may be playing in the tournament, will be appointed later and a neutral controller will be appointed to deal with any dispuutes which involve Steven as a player.
We have to reserve the right to default at our discretion people whom we have very good reason to think are either cheating or not making an effort to arrange a match, even if (given the nature of the Internet) we cannot conclusively prove it. We will not, however, abuse this right and it is only ever used in extreme circumstances.
