European Tantrix Championship 2002 - Group H

This group was responsible for most of the excitement and atmosphere in the lobby early on in the tournament, with the lower-ranked players enthusiastically playing plenty of games. However, it was tournament débutant Tom McCoy (GBR) who took the group by storm, remaining unbeaten for his first 12 games (won 11, drawn 1) before getting thrashed 46-20 in his 13th game by Kevin Scott (GBR), the no. 2 seed for the tournament. Tom recovered to record a 19-17 win in the other game in that match.

The second qualifying position looked like going to Zoltán Nedeczky (HUN) early on, after Kevin had a slightly shaky start, but by the time they played each other in the last match in the group, only 0.4 TPs separated them. Kevin won the first game, leaving Zoltán needing to win by 9 tiles in the final game. In a very blocked game, Kevin nearly let Zoltán get a loop which might have given him the second qualifying place, but it was not to be, the loop ended up blocked and in the end Kevin finished well clear in 2nd place to join his wife Marion in the last 16.
