Final report: Congratulations to no. 3 seed Graeme, who reversed the result of last year's Final by beating no. 4 seed Josh to win the title. Josh never caught up after Graeme won the first two games but the match was close and was still in doubt until the last game. Although these two players from NSW have never done particularly well in the WTC, they seem to thrive when they face the massed ranks of QLDers and others in their own national championship and it will be interesting to see if this year they can translate that form into WTC form in a few months' time. It is also intriguing how Queenslanders tend to lead the Australian challenge in the WTC but never have quite the same success in this event.

In the 3/4 play-off, no. 8 seed Paul had the edge v unseeded Janette at the end of their first session. A win for Janette in g4 almost levelled the match but Paul won the last two games to finish in 3rd place. Janette, though, was by far the most successful unseeded player and had a great first tournament.

QF report: No. 3 seed Graeme, last year's runner-up, won convincingly v no. 2 seed Anthony, just as he had done a round later last year. No. 7 seed Paul did equally well v no. 8 seed Peter to emphasise Group B's superiority over Group D.

Reigning champion Josh gave the performance of the round by thrashing no. 5 seed Kathy in a match most were expecting to be very close. A couple of big early wins left Kathy having to chase the match and this probably helped the final margin to be bigger than it otherwise would have been.

By far the most competitive QF was between unseeded Janette and no. 6 seed Garry. They were within 0.2 TPs of each other at the end of their second session and a draw in g5 maintained this wafer-thin gap but Janette held her nerve to win the final game and maintain Queensland's interest in the competition. She is making it ever more clear that beating no. 1 seed Leah and finishing top of Group A was no fluke!

SF report: In the first session of the match between reigning champion & no. 4 seed Josh and no. 8 seed Paul, each player won two games but a big 24-tile loop for Paul in g2 helped him to lead by 43.6-36.4 TPs. However, Josh won two agonisingly close final games to win the match by 63.6-56.4 TPs. In the other SF, unseeded Janette trailed last year's runner-up Graeme by 26.0-34.0 after their first session, but was probably not too worried, having had a L-W-L start in her QF as well. The no. 3 seed did not allow her another comeback though - wins in g4 & g5 at the start of their second session gave him victory in the match and another chance to take on Josh in an Australian Championship Final.
